TOGAF Essentials 2018 training available

The new release of the TOGAF standard, version 9.2 starts restructuring the standard to include a Body of Knowledge. The Body of Knowledge starts making the standard more actionable without expert assistance.

To demonstrate knowledge of current up-to-date knowledge of the TOGAF standard (version 9.2) the Open Group offers a TOGAF Essentials 2018 Credential. Gaining the TOGAF Essentials 2018 credential requires completion of a short 3-hour course and passing an online exam.

Conexiam wants to get the contents of the Body of Knowledge and the current best practices in the Practitioners’ Guide, Leader’s Guide, SOA Practical Guide, and the Risk & Security Guide in use. To support this, until the end of September 2018, we are offering TOGAF Essentials 2018 on-line on-demand training for free ($150 with the exam for the credential).

Our online, on-demand training is accredited by The Open Group and uses their standard material. Conexiam’s TOGAF Essentials 2018 course meets the mandatory training requirement for the TOGAF Essentials 2018 credential.

TOGAF Essentials 2018 Credential

TOGAF Essentials 2018 provides validation that individuals have up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the changes in 9.2.

The credential is only awarded after you complete both the mandatory three-hour training and passing a 20 question multiple-choice open book exam.

Order TOGAF Essentials 2018 with the exam option ($150)

Conexiam’s online on-demand video-based training has been hailed by practitioners all over the world.

Consumable and adaptable for their schedule:

“While I got off to a slow start due largely to work commitments and a healthy dose of procrastination I really enjoyed and appreciated the content and delivery style of your video training course.”
Brandon, Consultant, Global Consulting Services Providers

Productive for their EA Practice:

“I have gotten done more in the last 6 weeks than I would have in the last 3 years…”
Tom, Chief Architect, Business Services

Nabbing that shiny certification:

“I took my TOGAF certification exams today. The videos really helped me to kick-start my understanding of the way TOGAF approaches things.”
Stephen, Consultant, Regional Consulting Firm

“I passed with near perfect score! Your training material is extremely helpful. Thank you for all the help.”
Maggie, Chief Architect, Power Distribution & Transmission

TOGAF Essentials 2018 Credential Process

Upon satisfactory completion of the training element, and purchase of the assessment option, Conexiam submits Candidates contact details and TOGAF Certification number to The Open Group. The Open Group issues an invitation to the Candidate to take the assessment. The assessment process has two steps:

  1. You will receive an invitation to a sample assessment, which is an online multiple-choice exam. You have unlimited retakes for the sample, and must pass with a score of 75%
  2. After you pass the sample, you receive an invitation to the open book exam. It follows the exact same set-up and again a score of 75%

Following a successful exam assessment you will be invited to claim your TOGAF Essentials 2018 credential as an Acclaim Badge.

Expect about a week for this process.

We only submit candidates when we have 2 or more candidates to submit. If you change your mind and want the credential, please just order the course again.

TOGAF 9.2 includes Body of Knowledge

The TOGAF Standard Update

In April the Open Group released TOGAF 9.2. TOGAF 9.2 is a bridge between the monolithic past and a modular future.

The most significant change is the addition of the TOGAF Body of Knowledge into the TOGAF document structure. Today the Body of Knowledge includes current best practice including the Leader’s Guide, the Practitioners’ Guide, the Security Guide, and the SOA Practical Guide. Followers of Conexiam’s strategy of sharing our real-work expertise will know we drafted most of the these documents.

Our TOGAF Certification training, and all practical training, has been updated. Updates include a new set of exercises based on current best-practice in the Body of Knowledge.

Hands-on practical exercises supported by:

  • Detailed guidance
  • Editable templates
  • Completed Sample
  • Populated EA Repository (HTML-based)

All our online training purchasers will have access to the new material as it becomes available.

We are busy editing the online video material and will be done early-July 2018.

The “Governor’s guide” is the last part of Conexiam’s minimal guidance on putting TOGAF to use. Governor’s is written for one of the most important roles in high-functioning Enterprise Architecture, the governor.

Conexiam’s team will explore four distinct expressions of governance:

  1. Governing the creation of enterprise architecture
  2. Governing change through the use of enterprise architecture
  3. Governing value realization after the change team is done
  4. Governing the EA Team

We will also touch on the governance roles and responsibility, governing an enterprise architecture repository, and how to maintain the governance capability.

Pre-registration is recommended.  Click here to pre-register. Registrants will receive those all-important reminders and an email with the post-event recording.

Minimal guidance on using TOGAF

Over the past year the team at Conexiam drafted a consistent set of advice on the minimum problems an EA Team faces. We drew from our tools (Navigate, our practical EA with TOGAF and Navigate training, our governance toolkit, Pilot, and our approach Predictable Enterprise Architecture).

The minimum problems are:

  1. configuring an EA team to deliver EA suitable for the required purpose in alignment with operational practice: Leader’s Guide
  2. developing and using high-quality enterprise architecture: Practitioners’ guide
  3. governing creation of architecture, use of architecture, realization of value & the EA team: Governors’ guide
  4. using different standards and reference tools to accelerate work. Digital Transformation paper outlines using Open Group standards to speed Digital Transformation: Digital Transformation: Strategy to Implementation

Enterprise Architecture and Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC) Free Training

We provide a free training on-demand distance education training class.

The class is brings to life two expressions of governance:

  1. Governing change through the use of enterprise architecture
  2. Governing value realization after the change team is done

Simply go through the e-commerce system and order the free course.

Sharing Conexiam’s Real World Enterprise Architecture Expertise

We leverage free Open standards, TOGAF, IT4IT, etc. We use them to accelerate our work. We deliberately give back.

Our work developing strong high-functioning EA Teams and delivering useful enterprise architecture is our foundation. We saw four essential challenges:

  1. configuring your EA team to deliver to the purpose required and in alignment with your  processes and operational needs
    Leader’s Guide
  2. developing and using enterprise architecture for purpose and considering the set of practices that enable a functional EA Landscape
    Practitioners’ guide
  3. governing creation of architecture, governing an EA team, and most importantly using an enterprise architecture to govern change
    Governors’ guide
  4. using different standards and reference tools to accelerate your work without trying to redraft them. This paper uses Open Group standards and Digital Transformation as an example of stitching standards together

Real World TOGAF: CSC Case Study Available

Kris & Dave speaking about Real World TOGAF at CSCConexiam teaches what we do. Enterprise Architecture, TOGAF and IT4IT are not theoretical concepts. They are central to our business. The CSC & Conexiam Agile Enterprise Architecture Case study (download) explores how we deliver Enterprise Architecture. How we use TOGAF in the real-world.

CSC’s Kris Venkatesh and Conexiam’s Dave Hornford presented the at the Open Group’s Ottawa conference.

CSC is a worldwide leader for business, legal, and financial services. CSC “suffers” from success. They have grown immensely over 115 years. Doubled in size between 2010 and 2015 with a goal to continue organic and strategic growth through 2020 and beyond. Growth brought CSC the expected legacy: operational practices, IT applications, and customer-facing applications. Making it harder to stay agile. Making it harder to sustain market leadership

To accelerate its journey, CSC partnered with Conexiam. The case explores how CSC leveraged Conexiam’s Predictable Enterprise Architecture to accelerate its journey. CSC wanted useful enterprise architecture and a high functioning EA team. Acceleration matters. Measure Time to Latte.

“Using this approach, we moved further in 7 weeks than we would have in a year”
CSC Chief Architect

Configure TOGAF

Conexiam’s Predictable EA leverages Conexiam Navigate. Navigate & Predictable EA are configurations. We use TOGAF as a framework that provides the essential scaffolding.  Solid repeatable practices that are universal and generalized. The universal TOGAF framework must be optimized for every organization. Conexiam’s architecture toolsets, Navigate™ and Pilot™ accelerate the optimization.

Conexiam TOGAF Training

We teach the exact tools and techniques we use. In fact, we use our training in our consulting. As heavy consumers of our own training we work to improve it Especially effective distance education.

At CSC we used our packaged training to support the Predictable Enterprise Architecture service:

  • EA with TOGAF and Navigate using ABACUS provided practical hands-on quick-start CSC’s EA Capability Journey
  • TOGAF, the video supporting CSC’s staff desire to obtain TOGAF Certification.

Publications, TOGAF & IT4IT used

We openly share our experience and expertise. We are active in the Open Group’s development of standards. More importantly, providing guidance on how to use standards. When it comes to establishing an EA Capability, Conexiam has written the book.  “The Leader’s Guide to Establishing and Evolving an EA Capability.”

As part of the Predictable Enterprise Architecture service at CSC we referenced:

  • Leader’s Guide to Establishing and Evolving an Enterprise Architecture Capability
  • World Class EA: A Practitioner’s Approach to Developing Enterprise Architecture Whitepaper
  • World Class EA: Governor’s Approach to developing and using Enterprise Architecture Whitepaper
  • Digital Transformation Strategy to Implementation using Open Group Standards
  • TOGAF® 9.1 Standard
  • IT4IT™ 2.1 Standard

Conexiam Presenting Next Week at Open Group Ottawa 2017

Conexiam’s partners will be presenting on three sessions at the Open Group Ottawa Conference. We are continuing to share our experience. We are very happy to be jointly presenting our EA work with CSC.

“Case Study: How Agile EA Delivered Value in 7 Week Sprints”

Murali (Kris) Venkatesh, Chief Architect at CSC and David Hornford, Senior Managing Partner of Conexiam and Lead Architect on the CSC project. will explore a case study, “How Agile EA Delivered Value in 7 Week Sprints”. The case study follows the creation of a high functioning EA team at CSC one Predictable EA Sprint at at time. CSC’s EA team evolved from an ad hoc to fully iterative and self sufficient team. Using agile methods to develop EA is very effective, able to reach goals and deliver value within 7 week iterative cycles.

CSC started the 1st EA Sprint with a customized EA with TOGAF & Navigate Course.

“Case Study: Transformation of a Legal Services Organization”

Sriram Sabesan, Partner at Conexiam, will be speaking about the experience Conexiam had with a digital architecture transformation of CSC. CSC is a legal services organization, and relies heavily on data flow, accurate repository storage and control of data accessibility. Through the case study, we will discuss the seven aspects of a digital transformation journey. The direct changes to digital architecture in this case were the development of strategic architecture, target architecture, a migration to Cloud, a selective foray into mobile, and an adoption of DevOps model. Agile delivery in EA will also be a takeaway, and how to use analytics to power digital transformation.

Sri has written about the Seven Levers of Digital Transformation. We will be publishing a pair of papers about the Seven Levers in the near future.

“Using the Open Business Data Lake Standard” Wednesday

Ken Street, Partner at Conexiam, is addressing reality. Using the Open Business Data Lake Standard to address complexity. Information Architectures include complex Enterprise-Wide Ecosystems. These ecosystems have information needs that are composed of services both cloud and non-cloud, Operational Data and Business Information, structured and semi-structured, to name but a few.

Ken’s discussion will focus on how using a standard like the Open Business Data Lake can help address the Enterprise-Wide Ecosystems Stakeholders information concerns by creating a standards-based architecture that ensures the architecture delivered is at the right level of completeness and delivers confidence to the stakeholder.
