TOGAF Certification demonstrates that you understand the TOGAF Standard, and can identify which parts of to use in different circumstances.
There are two levels of TOGAF Certification. Both Level 1 & Level 2 cover the full-breadth of the TOGAF standard.
- TOGAF Foundation (Level 1)
- TOGAF Certified (Level 2)
The difference between the levels is your demonstrated understanding.
TOGAF Certification Level 1 (TOGAF Foundation)
Level 1 is designed to demonstrate that you know what the component parts of the the TOGAF Framework are. It is oriented to identification, description and definition.
TOGAF Certification Level 2 (TOGAF Certified)
Level 2 is designed to demonstrate that you can assemble the parts of the TOGAF standard to address common problems. Level 2 is heavily focused on the TOGAF ADM (Architecture Development Method).
TOGAF Certification is not about doing architecture. It is about using the industry standard framework.
Preparing for TOGAF Certification
There are two real options for TOGAF Certification
- Self Study
- Structure Training
If you are pursuing TOGAF self-study do not read TOGAF 9. The TOGAF standard is long and not structured to support learning for TOGAF Certification.
Start with a sample exam as a diagnostic. Find the parts of TOGAF you already know, and study the parts where you do not pass the exam.
If you are a true Do-it-Yourself type go to the Open Group website and purchase the TOGAF Study Guide. The study guide is organized around the TOGAF Learning Objectives and highlights the exact passages from TOGAF 9.2 that will be on the exam. It is loaded with sample questions.
If you want acceleration add an on-demand training course. You want on-demand because following the diagnostic you want to skip directly to the instruction that shores-up your understanding of TOGAF.
